Welcome new FANS members!

.

The Charleston Museum is fortunate to have the support of a wonderful volunteer group called the FANS (Friends and Needed Supporters) of The Charleston Museum.  The group’s mission is to promote awareness of the Museum through new membership; to promote and support activities of the Museum; and to organize special fundraising events outside regularly scheduled activities for the benefit of the Museum.

Today we hosted an orientation for our new FANS members.  Our five new members are:
Judy Bleecker
Betsy Carroll
Laura Waring Gruber
Karen Sewell
Felicia Sperr

The highlight of our new FANS orientation was getting a sneak peek at the Museum’s new historic textiles gallery (the gallery opens October 14 with Threads of War: Clothing and Textiles of the Civil War).  The FANS were instrumental in securing funding for this wonderful new gallery, so it was great to see the look of pleasure on their faces as curators Jan Hiester and Grahame Long showed them around.  Pictured right: returning FAN Penny Walker inspects the Calhoun Artillery flag .

The FANS’ Annual Family Picnic is just around the corner on October 24, 1:00-4:00.  This family event takes place at the Museum’s Dill Sanctuary on James Island.  If you think you might enjoy gorgeous views of the Stono River, nature walks, a butterfly release, Birds of Prey demonstrations, a Lowcountry dinner and much more, please make your reservations today!
